Everyone needs weight loss motivation. It isn’t enough to just use a weight loss calculator to work out how many calories you can eat, and then make up your mind to stick with an exercise routine.
That only lasts until the weekend.
And then, all of a sudden, you’re sitting in front of the TV with a bag of potato chips or a tub of ice cream, wondering for the hundredth time why you can’t seem to stick with your fat loss program.
The trouble is you lack weight loss motivation. It’s not your fault – well, it’s not your fault alone. There are many great people who stand in your shoes, able and willing to go through the rigor of a fat loss program but lacking the motivation to lose weight.
Here are some tips to help you stick with the program.
1. Work on your mind
Thin people are thin because they think thin. The way they are is a reflection of the way they live. Crash diets and “14 Day Rapid Fat Loss” are not in their lexicon. They eat, exercise and relax in a certain way – because that’s how they think all the time.
If you’re overweight, it’s probably because you’ve not thought the same way. When you see a bar of chocolate or a delicious creamy pastry, you’re probably imagining how it will taste in your mouth – instead of how it’ll make you feel when you’re wobbling around with those extra pounds of fat around your tummy!
Think thin. Imagine consequences. Visualize results. Do it before you put anything into your mouth. Make it a habit. Once it becomes one, you won’t worry about weight loss motivation.
2. Get in good company
If people in your group are compulsive over-eaters, chances are you will indulge yourself too. The best motivation to lose weight is not looking daily at your weight loss calculator or eating only fat burning foods. It’s surrounding yourself with slim people.
No, don’t just choose your friends depending on how thin or fat they are. But spend more time in the company of health-conscious people who care about their fitness and form. If they exercise regularly, you’ll find yourself motivated to join them. If they avoid eating greasy, fat-rich food, you’ll not feel the urge to let yourself go.
Before you know it, you’ll have all the motivation to lose weight that you’ll ever need.
3. Don’t beat yourself up
Weight loss motivation doesn’t have to be self flagellation. Don’t be hard on yourself. Don’t insult or debase yourself for slipping up on your diet once, or not sticking with your workout routine.
Everyone has a bad day. You’re allowed the occasional slip. Most good fat loss programs, like Shaun Hadsall’s “14 Day Rapid Fat Loss Plan” allow ‘cheat days’ (read our 14 day fat loss plan review here).
Avoid a need for perfection. Weight loss motivation requires consistency more than being absolutely perfect.
4. Fat loss isn’t everything
Some people end up becoming miserable and upset just because they can’t hit their weight loss targets. The weight loss calculator says they are still overweight, despite weeks of self-deprivation and hard work. And so they feel bad.
That someone doesn’t have to be YOU. Sure, slim and fit is good. But fat and fit is great. Being slim won’t solve every problem in the world – and not everyone has to be slim and slender. If you’re fit, active and energetic, then that’s a great result to get from being on a fat loss program.
Remember, your motivation to lose weight was fueled by a desire to be a healthier, more active version of yourself. That’s the real goal – not just some arbitrary number your weight loss calculator spits out when you punch in details!
5. Eat what you like
Here’s a radical piece of advice – but take it in full. Eat what you like – but eat only when you’re hungry. I mean really hungry – not just craving a type of food because it’s in your fridge!
Stocking up your home with fat burning foods can help you lose weight as you eat more. A balanced fat loss diet with some good carbs, a lot of protein and little saturated fat is good for your health – and wonderful for weight loss motivation.
These sound like simple tips. But when you lack motivation to lose weight, try them out. You’ll be amazed at the results.
