Your purpose matters - to you.
But does it matter to others? Enough others, to get you to where you want to go?
That’s the challenge you’ll face as your purpose evolves and grows. Famous motivation guru Zig Ziglar says:
“You can have everything you want as long as you give enough others everything THEY want.”
Tying your purpose into something big, all-inclusive, and of interest to others will increase your chances of making it happen.
But that’s also difficult to do. Unless your purpose is selfless.
With a purpose like mine - to help under-privileged children have a chance at life - getting ‘buy in’ from many others is a little easier.
The purpose is inspiring and motivating. It appeals to many people, makes them feel good about helping a child live, gives them reason to believe they are in reality changing the world and making it a better place.
It reaches out and touches the core of what people deeply want - to be acknowledged as important, valuable, and influential.
The Congenital Heart Defects Awareness effort does just that. It depends upon supporters like you for its success. It directly impacts the lives of little children, so you and thousands of others who help with it feel responsible and fulfilled by the results they are creating.
Getting others involved in your purpose means making them an integral part of it - and doing it not through coercion, trickery or manipulation, but by making them want to be involved.
