Just 8 overs into the second innings when Chennai Super Kings were chasing the Kolkata Knight Riders score dust storms blocked out all chances of Kolkata Knight Riders winning the match and trying to qualify for a semi-final spot.  No further way was possible and with Chennai Super Kings being marginally ahead at that stage of the game compared to KKR they were awarded the match under the D/L rule.
